The Lakefield College School Northcote Campus is an expansive 160-acre property where you can immerse yourself in nature while enjoying outdoor recreation and farming. Approximately 90% of the land is preserved wetlands, while the remaining area includes fields, forests, 5 km of walking, skiing, and sleigh-riding trails, 6,000 feet of waterfront, and various buildings.

The campus is also home to a two-acre regenerative educational farm that produces over 11,000 pounds of fresh produce annually. This food is enjoyed by students and staff in the school’s dining hall and shared with the community through local food and meal programs.

As an outdoor immersive learning space, Northcote offers real-world experiences that provide our students with meaningful ways to participate directly in climate action, and lead to truly authentic learning and fulfillment.

LCS offers a breadth of learning opportunities at Northcote through its curricular, co-curricular and Summer Academy programs including hands-on experiences in:

  • Planting and maintaining our polyculture vegetable garden
  • Ecology
  • Green technologies
  • Natural tea harvesting and wellness talks
  • Natural dye workshops using botanicals grown on the farm
  • Understanding the difference between regenerative and industrial farming
  • The science of soil health and testing
  • Building projects for the farm
  • Orienteering
  • Outdoor Education
  • Wilderness skills including cooking and bushcraft
  • Leave-No-Trace wilderness camping

Sustainability at LCS

Our campus farm, groves of maple trees that we tap for syrup, and an apiary that provides honey are among the many ways Lakefield College School promotes sustainable living.
